Files won't load from shortcut on email

I've used Excel for years. A few days ago I couldn't open an Excel file
attached to an email from a coworker. Since then clicking on any shortcut or
an Excel file attached to an email only loads the Excel program, but doesn't
load the requested worksheet file - or even a blank worksheet. I've checked
the settings (which had been working fine) and find no problem.

With Excel open, I can click "open" and locate any file and load it without
a problem. I just can't get files to load from any shortcut or from an
email. Word files and other types of files work fine in their appropriate
programs.

Try the usual fix for this.

Tools>Options>General Uncheck "Ignore Other Applications"

If no joy with that................

Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar

1) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.

In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe" /regserver(quotes
required)>OK.

Your "usual fix" worked. Amazing! Thanks.
