Workbook wont load from shortcut

I have a paralell installation of Office 2003 on my machine. When I try to
load a workbook (even a workbook saved in the xlsx format) the program loads
but the worksheet doesnt. I have to select open from the menu and cancel it
and then the workbook I specified opens. If I open excel without opening a
saved workbook...it opens fine with a blank worksheet.

Anyone have the same problem or know a workaround for this annoying problem?

Hello Carol
In the Excel Menu:
Tools, Option, General tab
Untick "Ignore other applications"
Ok
Close Excel and try again.

I see this has happened with other versions. There is no Tools menu in Excel
2007 and I found an 'Ignore other DDE applications' in the options => general
section. I checked that...but that doesnt work either.

Still need to resolve this. None of my saved worksheets will load unless I
first open excel, and select it from the open menu.

Hi there,

I just fixed this "not showing file behaviour" by turning off "use
DDE" (under windows explorer => on a brand new WindowsXP box with
Office2003, both fully patched up.

I just built another new PC and I get exactly the same problem, but
this time the OfficeXP-with-SP2 has not got the latest office patches
on it. I suspect I need to have a look at the list of recent WindowsXP
security updates...

Good luck,

Hi there,

I just fixed this "not showing file behaviour" by uninstalling
"network DDE" (using XPlitePro) on a brand new WindowsXP box with
Office2003, both fully patched up.

I have another problem with "use DDE" on this machine and I just built
another new PC and I get exactly the same "use DDE" problem, but this
time the OfficeXP-with-SP2 has not got the latest office patches on
it.

When "use DDE" is enabled Excel will not open a new Excel window for
each spreadsheet, I have to turn off "use DDE" and add ""%1"" to the
command line to make Excel behave again (Windows Explorer => Tools =>
folder options => file types, scroll down to "XLS" and click on
<advanced>

The "Browse in same window" option gets completely ignored.

On top of that, the windows taskbar ignores its "group similar"
setting...

I suspect I need to have a look at the list of recent WindowsXP
security updates...

Good luck,
a stockist of WindowsXP and Office2003...

Running Excel 2007 primarily. THis issue goes away when I clear all the
add-ins from Excel. I have some business add ins that I need to load. Seems
that when the add ins load successfully they exit the form load routine and
the worksheet never loads. I can still open the worksheet if I go to the
file menu...but that is not a good solution. Any ideas?
