excel memory requirements

I have a Dell XPS 400 computer, about 5 years old. It
came with MS excel loaded. I have never used it. Now I
need to use it and I get the message "Not enough memory
to load Excel".
My computer has a Pentium 11 with 96 mg RAM and a 2 GB
hard drive with 1 gb free. It is running windows 98 with
84% free. Virtual memory is 32 bit.
What do I need?

I ran Excel 97 on Windows 98SE 200 Mhz PII for years with only 48MB Ram and
had no problems with "out of memory".

Something else is using resources.
