Excel File Size

I have an Excel '97 workbook with one worksheet that is my
source data for the multiple pivot tables I have in the
file. My file size is 47mb. I made a copy of the file,
deleted 90% of the data on my data worksheet and refreshed
all my pivot tables to the new size of my data sheet, but
the file size is still at 40mb. I started a new workbook,
copied the source data over from my other workbook, and
recreated all my pivots. My new file size is now 6mb.

Is there anyway to get my 47mb file down to 6mb without
having to start from scratch?

You might check to see if you have extra rows making up
the used area on each sheet by pressing Ctrl + End to see
what the last used row is. Any type of formatting
previously applied to a cell even with the data deleted is
still considered "used". Select the used rows and delete
them, then re-save the file. I just had a problem like
this with a large file size. HTH.

Thanks for the response. I did the Ctrl+End and it took
me to end of my data and no further, so I guess that is
not the problem.
