File size

I have followed the instructions in the forum concerning reducing an excel
file size. The workbook contains six worksheets with pivot tables, macros
and custom functions. The file size is approx 870KB. After hiding rows and
columns that I dont want other people to see the file size became approx
8.1MB. I unhid the rows and columns and the size is back to 870KB. Is this
normal? I guess my other option is to have white text on a white background
but that seems a bit primitive when the hide feature is there.

Thanks

Peter,
I can't see why hiding data would cause such a huge increase in size (or indeed any increase in size). However, if you're hiding rows and/or columns beyond a certain limit, an alternative might be just to set the scroll area, e.g.
ActiveSheet.ScrollArea = "a1:z50"
Columns beyond Z and rows beyond 50 are inaccessible and effectively hidden. Of course it's possible that this will also increase the size but it must be worth a try...
