Excel file exceeds 3.0mb - but file is small spreadsheet

My boss created a file in Excel that consists of two small spreadsheets. For
some reason, Excel thinks this file covers the entire spreadsheet down to the
last row (65536). This is causing the file to be over 3 mb. I tried
deleting all of the rows below the spreadsheet...or clearing the rows and
nothing seems to work. I'm baffled...any ideas?

As long as you have physically deleted the rows below and the columns to the
right of your data, and then saved the file, it should be fine. Might have
to close it and reopen it as well.

When I say delete the rows, I mean using Edit / Delete / Entire Row etc -
same for columns.
