Excel crashes when Tools - Options Selected

I changed the default file location, under the Tools -
Options menu.

Now when I try to select Tools - OPtions, excel crashes.
the Dr Watson error listing is excel.exe c0000005
<nosymbols> (00650065).

Application exception occurred:
App: excel.exe (pid=1500)
When: 12/1/2003 @ 14:27:18.799
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

I think I have typed the default directory name
incorrectly, but cannot change it. Is the only way to fix
this to re-install Excel.

I have tried all the command line switches, but none of
them work.

Rob,

Thanks, I knew there was a simple solution to this. After
renaming the default directory to less than 53 characters,
it works perfectly.

I am having the same, or very similar, problem. Anytime
I select Options from the pull-down menu, Windows XP puts
up a little windw saying it is sorry but has to close
Excel immediately. All unsaved data is lost. Have you
discovered anything yet about this?
