Excel 2007 with delete deny can't save

Hi
I have a big problem with Excel 2007.
I have a shared folder on our file server where users can modify the excel
files within, but can't delete them, I have set delete deny on permission.
With Excel XP all was working fine, with Excel 2007 users can't save the
file that have modified, if they try have an error message.
The permission on the folder are:
modify allow
Read & execute allow
List Folder Contents allow
Read allow
Write allow

and on advanced settings

Delete deny

Please can you help me to find a workaround ??????????

Thanks

Luca

It seems pretty odd to me that this worked in xl2002.

When excel saves the file, it saves it as a temporary file with a funny name (8
characters--no extension) in the same folder.

If the save is successful, xl will delete the original (or rename it to its
backup name (like "backup of book1.xlk)) and if that's successful, xl will
rename the funny named file to the original's name.

So even if the user is simply updating the file, that user will need delete
access in that folder.

It is odd but true, with xl2002 work. In the folder remain the file with 8
characters--no extension, but I have no error message.
I think that for xl2002 doesn't matter if the result of deletion is a deny,
meanwihile with xl2007 return an error

And you're sure your file is updated in xl2002. I bet your changes are in that
funny named file.

I've never seen excel fail to give an error message in any version when the
delete fails.

If it happened for you that way, I don't have a guess why.

To be honest I don't know why I have this issue however if you have a shared
folder you can try to reproduce the issue

By the way with xl2002 the temp file remains and the xls file are updated

I don't have access to any shared folder.

And I have never seen any version of excel behave this way.

Hi,

Maybe I'm not following this but you say "if they try have an error message"

What is the error message?

With delete deny when a user click on save button have this error:

Access denied, contact an administrator

With delete allow no problem, user can save
