Excel 2007 stops responding

On several machines we have an issue that Excel 2007 stops responding when we
fill or drag cells or use the autosum function or change the number of
decimals of a selection of cells.

In the eventlog we see events 5000 with the next text:

EventType officelifeboathang, P1 excel.exe, P2 12.0.6504.5001, P3 ntdll.dll,
P4 5.1.2600.5755, P5 NIL, P6 NIL, P7 NIL, P8 NIL, P9 NIL, P10 NIL.

I have tried to untick the autosave and uninstalled adobe reader as
suggested in newsgroups.

What other options can i try?

Couple of things to check:

Make sure that the Google Excel Office com addin is not installed.

Check for large numbers of invisible shapes/drawings (use goto special
objects to find them)
