Hello,

I using a toshiba notebook with a Targus external keypad. When I was using
Office 2000 I had no issues. I have upgraded to Office 2003 and now the
minus key on the keypad will not work in Excel 2003. I do a fair amount of
data entry in my job and it is important that I get this fixed. Not sure if
this is a driver probolem. Some one mentioned to me that when I upgraded
Excel it might have deleted the drivers. The targus keypad did not come with
any drivers. I called targus tech support and they have never heard of this
problem and were no help.

anybody hear of this

Just a thought, does it work in NotePad or Calc? If not then it may be
coincidence the it failed.

Then it may be interesting to see what the "-" key on the external pad
is sending and what Excel is receiving.

When I press the "-" on the external keypad using Excel it puts a "EXT" on
the botton status bar. This is where you can right mouse click and use
"SUM", "COUNT" etc.

That area also indicates "NumLock, ScrollLock and CapsLock". Does it
"toggle" with pressing the "-" key? Try toggling Numlock and see?

Bob I, thanks for al your help.

Yesterday, I noticed that there was a battery in the back of the keypad. I
took it out and tried and for some reason the "-" worked in excel. I put the
battery it continued to work

I looked at what you wrote last, and I tried it. It could be that the
NumLock is a bit stick and that might be the whole problem. I had to depress
the NUmLock for a few secs before the NUM showed up on the status bar in
Excel and the minus key works. When I depress the NumLock key and hit the
minus key, EXT shows up in the status bar.

So in the end all is well .
