Hi all

Got a silly problem. MS Excel 2003 Professional via MS partner pack
(aka Action Pack)

Start Excel as normal, no problem, clik on FILE on the menu bar and
Excel stops responding. ALL other menu items work correctly. I've
un-installed and re-installed the software, no change. Excel WILL run
in safe mode however. Any ideas anyone please.

Thanks in anticipation,

Adrian.

PS I have an HP psc1215 attached and have noticed some mention of
issues with their 'Share-to-web' rubbish that comes supplied (now
un-installed)

Close excel
Use windows search and look for *.xlb (location and name will vary with the
versions of windows and excel you used).

Rename that *.xlb file to *.xlbOLD

restart excel and test it out a bit.

This does mean that you'll have to recreate any customized changes to your
toolbars, though.

If it doesn't help, delete any newly created *.xlb files and rename the *.xlbOLD
back to *.xlb.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for that, I think you've pointed me in the right direction, I
don't have the EXCEL.XLB file present on my system, I'll get my Action
Pack and extract the file and try again. Thanks again.

Adrian.

*.xlb isn't part of the excel install--it's created the first time it's needed.

But I bet you have one, but just didn't find it (it hides pretty well!).

close excel
shell to DOS
windows start button|Run
cmd (windows 2k/xp)
command (windows 98)

At the DOS prompt:
C: (to get to the C: drive)
cd\ (to get to the root directory)

dir *.xlb /s

the /s means to search through subdirectories.

Maybe you'll be able to see/delete/rename the files.
