Excel 2003 startup brings up about 15 xls files; how can I stop

for some days now, on startup, Excel opens 10-15 of my xls files ... how is
this happening, and how can I stop the proecess

Excel will open all files in the XLStart folder. Search for this
folder and remove the items in it. Also, go to the Tools menu,
choose Options, then the General tab. There, clear the "At
startup, open all files in" text box.
