Excel 2003 and Excel Viewer on a Terminal Server

I have a Terminal Service server that is accessed by
several thin clients. We had Excel viewer installed so
that users could read XLS files from the company website.

We then had a user that needed to be able to edit XLS
files, so we installed Excel 2003 in that users Documents
and Settings folder, with that user being the only one
with permission to use Excel 2003.

Now we get errors every other time another user tries to
open an XLS file.

According to the MS Knowledgebase, you can install Excel
and the Viewer on the same machine, as long as they are
not in the same directory.

Is there something I am missing?

I've never used the excel viewer or terminal services. But I bet you'll get
better responses if you share what those error messages are.

Dave,

Thanks for the suggestion. When a normal user attempts to
click on a link to an XLS file, you see a window appear
which says "Installing" and then you see the standard DNS
error page, which says the page cannot be found. However,
if you click back and then click on the link again, it
will open in Excel Viewer.

The users are complaining about having to click the link
twice and dealing with this issue.

Any other thoughts?

Just a guess--I don't have any experience using either of these (viewer or
terminal service).

Maybe reinstalling the viewer would fix it.

(I'm not sure the viewer supports a reregistering function (like excel does).)
