Excel 2002

When I try to open a folder in excel, or even the excel
program itself, all my files in that folder open one after
the other and can't be halted unless I open the task
manager.
This happened after I linked a few files into a word
document. But I have deleted these links in the word
document.
I have reinstalled Windows XP, but did not correct the
problem. In addition, I can access the same folder from
another computer and there are no problems with the excel
files.
Is this a linking problem?
Thank you.

Hi Teresa,

The problem is that you have inadvertently specified that folder as an
alternate startup location in the version of Excel that has the problem. To
fix this, I would first move all the file out of the folder that Excel is
trying to read so that you are able to start Excel successfully. Once Excel
has opened, choose Tools/Options/General from the menu and delete any path
that has been entered in the setting called "At startup, open all files in".
Click OK, close Excel, and put the files that you moved back where they
belong and you should be all set.
