Excel 2000 crash in NT4 workstation

When starting Excel 2000 SR1 in NT4 workstation SP6 have
suddenly started having the following error: excel.exe
access violation 0xc0000005 at address 0x30026d89. Have
tried reinstalling Excel but still get the problem every
time. Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks
 
Start by trying to run Excel in it's safe mode

Start->Run->Excel /s
Does excel at least open at this point or does it still
error out?
