EWF initialization fails

I am using XPE with SP1 and I installed all the QFEs up to Feb 2004. I have configured XPE to use RAM overlay. I am using a 30 GB HD that has 3 primary partitions on it, and about 50 MB of unpartitionned space at the end of the HD. The EWF is not enabled by the FBA

The initialization of the EWF often fails, in the FBA.log there is the "ewfOpen error: Invalid Handle returned", "ConfigureEwf Error: 0x57" or "ConfigureEwf Error: 0x2". Before doing the FBA, I tried deleting the partitions with FDISK and recreating them, I also tried zeroing the MBR and recreating it and the partitions (always leaving unpartitionned space at the end), but the EWF is not always initialized successfully, sometimes it is, sometimes it is not

What can I do to be sure that the EWF will initialize properly during the FBA ? Do I have to use a special utility to get rid of the EWF partition

I searched the newsgroup and found many posts related to EWF and initialization problem but I did not find a clear answer

Thanks in advance

You can find and delete EWF partition with either.
diskpart or etprep util.

Also if you need to protect only one partition you should find my solution

Thanks for your answer

When I used diskpart to try to delete the EWF partition, it gave me an error "Can not delete partition, it may be needed by the OS", and with etprep, the result was not consistent, sometimes the EWF worked sometimes it failed

If I zero the first sector of the HD, should it be ok

I did not try your solution on xpefiles.com because I want to be able to use ewfmgr c: -disable when I need to update files on the HD

Is there a QFE that I should not install ? or install ?

diskpart have force or override switch that can be used with most commands.
You need to look at description of diskpart command.

You can delete MBR (first sector) but this is overkill (there is no need for
you to do this)
