Everything seems to have slowed down a bit

Just lately everything on my PC seems to have slowed down
slightly. I select something or click on something and
there seems to be a slight delay before anything happens.
I havent changed anything in my system set-up and
although it's not a major problem it is a bit annoying.

Any help on this would be really appreciated. My system
is Win XP Pro with 512MB ram, 850Mhz Processor.

Thanks

Usually a slow-down is indicative of too many programs running the in
the background, including possible trojans, viruses, or other kinds of
malware. You should: 1) scan with current antivirus ("current" means a
version not later than 2002 but using updated virus definitions); 2)
remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy (www.security.kolla.de) and
Ad-aware (www.lavasoftusa.com) - note that it is a good idea to do
virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode; 3) delete temporary and Temporary
Internet Files; 4) stop unnecessary services/programs from starting
with Windows - see www.blackviper.com for services info and
www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm for programs info - 5) look in
Event Viewer for clues.
