Everything opens up minimized

Whatever application I open up starts with a minimized window. It changes
when I click to maxamize. I've tried stretching the window but after I close
and re-open it is again minimized. I think this started after an upgrade. ???

They may just be offscreen. Restore a minimized icon to put the focus there.
Press alt-space to open it's system menu, and press M to move the window,
press an arrow key, and click the mouse. If that makes the app show up, do
that for all.
