Event Viewer Error

J

Jeremy Doucet

Whenever I go to view the Security log in the Event
Viewer, I get a message saying: "Unable to complete the
operation on security. A required privilege is not held
by the client". I am a Domain Admin and have rights
across the entire domain. We are running active directory
as well.

Jeremy,

Check if UserAccount you used is listed in Group Policy for "Manage auditing
and security log"

- Under Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local
Policies\User Rights Assignment"

- For more information, please see:

- - 300549 HOW TO: Enable and Apply Security Auditing in Windows 2000

- - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300549

Also, if this is just one machine, check for possible corrupted log:

- 172156 How to Delete Corrupt Event Viewer Log Files

- - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=172156

Hope the information helped.

Sincerely,

.
My user account is listed under the User Rights
Assignment but other users are not. These other users do
not have this problem but yet I do. Also, it is not on
just one machine. I cannot view the security log on any
machine across the domain.

Jeremy,

If other user account works, sounds like you might belong to a group that
had permission denied.

Try to use a clean account and then slowly add membership to see what is the
breaking point?

Let me know how it goes.
