Event ID 7023

Every time I try to add a program through add/remove
programs, I get about 100 of this error in the event log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7023
Description: The Application Management Service
terminated with the following error: The specified module
could not be found.

This points to article 328213 where:
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it
is only intended to correct the problem that is described
in this article. Apply it only to computers that are
experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive
additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely
affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you
wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains
this fix.
To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft
Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a
complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone
numbers and information about support costs, visit the
following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-
US;CNTACTMS

Has this fix become available or do I still need to
contact MS by phone. I have searched all NG and haven't
found anything recent

Hi Johnny,

If you think that fix applies, you still need to call. Hotfixes are free for
the asking as long as you ask for no other support.
