Windows XP Home SP3

In Event Viewer I receive the following error message very frequently
(several times daily):

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7023
Date: 13/07/2009
Time: 15:31:46
User: N/A
Computer: Mikoyan
Description:
The Application Management service terminated with the following error:
The specified module could not be found.

Can anyone help expalin the problem, do I need to be concerned and how do I
fix the problem.

Regards, Mikoyan.

Hi John,

Thanks for the quick reply. I did uninstall a large program using add/remove
programs recently.

I followed your link to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328213 which
contained a link to a selection of platform specific hotfixes. However, they
all appear to be for SP2 (I have SP3). So I am unsure which one I need.
Should I leave well alone, or install the
Windows XP English i386 sp2 PKG33619

hotfix which seems closest to my system.

Regards, Mikoyan

I would think that it would still work but I'm not 100% sure, if you
decide to apply the hotfix get the newest version.

Out of curiosity can you verify for the presence and contents of the
following registy key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AppMgmt

John

Hi John,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AppMgmt is present and
contains Enum, Parameters and Security.

Thanks for your time on this,

Regards, Mikoyan

What is the Start value data at the AppMgmt key? If it isn't already
set to 0x4 (4) set it to that and see what happens.

Does this error have any consequences other than the recording of an
error in Event Viewer? If not it is my understanding that you can safely
ignore the Event Viewer error.

Hope this helps.

All hotfixes/patches after SP2 were supposedly included in SP3.
