Event ID 1003 : Source BINLSVC : Posted to Application Event Log Every 35 Seconds

Hello, All,
We have a Windows 2000 Server that is having an event repeatedly posted to
the Application Event Log every 35 seconds...

----------------
Date: 12/4/2003
Time: 12:39
Type: Information
User: N/A
Computer: ????????
Source: BINLSVC
Category: None
Event ID:

The BINL service successfully read its settings from the directory service.
----------------

The issue came to my attention because our Application Event Log filled up
with it.

I found a small amount of articles on Usenet, http://tinyurl.com/xqdx, with
identical symptoms. The only recommendation seemed to be to turn off the
"RIS Service" and only re-enable when needed. I've looked up and down my
services list and can't find anything which I think might be the RIS
Service. Does anyone know what the name of the "RIS Service" would be on
the Services list? Is it listed as Remove Installation Service?

I also found an article on EventID.net,
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?app=Top10&eventid=1003, but I'd like to
concentrate on the RIS Service idea for now.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks, Much!
Dan Geiser

Remote Installation Services -- it's use to deploy W2K or XP (or even
server) on workstations with PXE enabled NICs.

Hi, Daniel,
Thanks for responding.

The only "remote" services I have listed under my Services are...

Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
Remote Access Connection Manager
Remote Procedure Call
Remote Procedure Call Locator
Remote Registry Service
Remote Storage Engine
Remote Storage File
Remote Storage Media
Remote Storage Notification

Does this mean that I don't have Remote Installation Services installed on
my machine?

Thanks,
Dan
