Userenv event ID 1000 in Windows 2000

Rod Gilchrist

I am experiencing the problem outlined in article id# 326912, where my event
viewer application log shows:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 12/29/2004
Time: 4:29:49 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: HELMDESK23
Description:
Windows cannot log you on because the profile cannot be loaded. Contact your
network administrator.

DETAIL - Access is denied.

I would like to get the hotfix mentioned in the article (my version of
Ieinfo5.ocx is older than the one listed in the article). The article says
"To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support
Services to obtain the hotfix."

Is there no other way to get this without having to open an incident and
wait a day or two?

Hello Rod,

CAUSE
=========
You receive this error message if the the Default User folder, in the
Documents and Settings folder is missing.
RESOLUTION
============
If the folder is missing, log on as the administrator, and create a new
folder in the Documents and Settings directory named "Default User" (the
folder can remain empty).

This new Default Users folder inherits the default permissions from the
Documents and Settings folder of the parent.

After you create the new folder, log off, and then attempt to log on again
as the new domain user that was receiving the error message. The logon
process should now succeed.

or
Details: Access is denied - The problem ended up being that there was no
user folder in “Documents and Settings” with the username of the user. To
remedy this problem you can do one of the following:
1. Give the user domain admin rights -> log on -> log off -> remove domain
admin rights. The default user profile has been copied and the user should
be able to logon.
2. Copy the Default Profile folder to the folder with the username of the
user. Give the user full control over this folder

Thanks for responding S.J.

The Default User folder does exist.

I seem to be having a larger issue than I originally thought concerning
permissions. My permissions for the ASPNET user don't seem to be working at
all. Everything looks right, but it's not working anywhere.

I did an upgrade to XP Pro from W2k thinking that (seeing that I was due for
it anyway) it would fix it, but nope.

Now I get:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: ASP.NET 1.1.4322.0
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 01/04/2005
Time: 4:44:41 PM
User: N/A
Computer: HELMDESK23
Description:
aspnet_wp.exe (PID: 1564) stopped unexpectedly.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

And when I launch VS .net (2003) I get a JIT error from HELMDESK23\ASPNET.

I think I'll contact support about it.

Thanks again.
