I disabled Active Desktop but that didn't resolve my problem. Ran all
sorts of BHO and spyware utilities but nothing resolved my problem.
I don't know which change finally resolved my problem but (1) I
disabled Fax services because I was receiving Microsoft Fax
Initialization/Terminations errors (EVENT ID 32026 and 32068)in the
Event Log:
"The outgoing routing rule is not valid because it cannot find a valid
device. The outgoing faxes that use this rule will not be routed.
Verify that the targeted device or devices (if routed to a group of
devices) is connected and installed correctly, and turned on. If
routed to a group, verify that the group is configured correctly.
Country/region code: '*' Area code: '*'"
(2) I uninstalled/reinstalled ZoneAlarm 3.7 which was receiving the
following error for the True Vector Engine:
The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( True Vector Engine )
cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary
registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a
remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to
retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The
following information is part of the event: .
After this, IE stopped crashing.
