Event 7023 Service Control Manager

Hi,

One of our machines logs the above event in the System Event viewer. The
descripton is "The IPSec Services service terminated with the following
error: the system cannot find the file sepecified"

When I look at the services, the IPSec Services is indeed stopped even
though it is supposed to start automatically. If you try to start it, it
tells you the "system cannot find the file sepecified". The file LSASS.EXE
is in the windows\system32 directory. According to the processes in the
TaskManager, it is running.

We ran spyware apps and virus software since lsass.exe is an easy target.
Has anyone seen this before?

This particular machine keeps locking up after running Outlook for a period
of time, but I don't know if the issues are related.

Thanks!

When you start the IPSEC Services component on the domain controller, you
may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
The system cannot find the file specified.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when there is a corrupted file in the policy store. The
file may become corrupted if an interruption occurs when the policy is being
written to the disk.

Hi Wesley,

I had seen this KB, but didn't think it applied to an XP machine. Followed
the directions on the XP machine and it seems to be working. Thanks for your
help!

I don't know why, but the APPLIES TO does not always apply to. If you catch
my drift.

Keep having fun.
