Event 1001 errors

I followed the instruction in KB: 267831
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/267831/EN-US) and now I am getting rolling
Event 1001 errors. Any idea how to fix this?

Event Category: None
Event ID: 1001
Description:
Unable to read the first counter index value from the registry. The error
code returned by the registry is data DWORD 0.

The error code in the data section translates to "The system cannot find the
