Ok, here's the situation...

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Dhcp
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1002
Date: 4/9/2004
Time: 5:55:43 PM
User: N/A
Computer: *******
Description:
The IP address lease 0.0.0.0 for the Network Card with network address
004063C30C23 has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1 (The DHCP
Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

I am currently running Win2k Pro 2nd release SP 4 with all possible
'critical' updates and seem to have gotten this message. I got a
battery of these and attempted to renew myself with the network (A VPN
created by a LinkSys Cable router BEFSR41 ver 2, with up to date
firmware) via ipconfig /release *, which worked, but when i entered
ipconfig /renew, it would not renew. The router has three lights on
the incoming port, a link, an act, and a diag (top to bottom) and
usually, the top is green, the middle flashes, and the bottom is off.
When these errors occured, the top was green, the middle was solid
red, and the bottom was red. I've reflashed the firmware and it seems
to working, though I've had this problem before, and the router was
fine and the other computer (which is no longer on the network) still
had full access to the net and the router (it was running win 98 2nd
edition). My network hardware is whatever is attached to a Via P4PB
400 FL Mainboard motherboard. The adapter is VIA Rhine III Management
Adapter.

Anyone know how to fix this? I've had DNS issues in the past when I
was running a static IP, I've switched to dynamic IP and now have DHCP
errors.

Double-check the subnet mask and interface IP on the ethernet port of your
linksys and make sure it corresponds with the expected IPs.
Does the client still connect if you use a static IP on it?

Also, your router might be forwarding the dhcp requests to your ISP ~ You
don't want that.

With a static IP there are no major problems as long as I makes sure I
use a IP that is not within the range I have set on the LinkSys for
dynamic IP assignments, I will have to check the subnet mask and
interface IP once my computer is up again, right now it is in pieces
as I am doing an upgrade and not all the parts have arrived yet.

Do you the same problem with other PCs on your network?
Turn off ICS if it is running on another PC on your network.
Connect PC directly to DSL router if going through a switch or try different a port on DSL router
Change the Media Type setting on the network adapter from Autoselect/hardware default to 10baseT
Remove and reinstall TCP/IP in case the stack is corrupted
