eTrust AV giving different info

S

Sylvia M

I'm running Windows 98SE, with eTrust AV.
When I click on AV protection status after normal boot-up, I
get green circles with checks for real time protection,
email protection , and virus signature update. However in
safe mode, real time protection and email protection both
show the dreaded red circle of 'not protected'.

Also, when I run a scan, both modes show over 50,000 files
scanned, and no problems,
but when I check the Log Viewer,it indicates
"C:\WIN386.SWP -scan failed" in normal mode, and several
more that failed when I check in safe mode. I would copy
and paste all, but right click does not give me that option.

Why and what to do?

If they are the same as C:\WIN386.SWP, the Win98 Virtual Memory swap file, nothing.

That is normal behaviour. The OS is actively using the .SWP file and the respective File
Handle is held open and thus can't be scanned.

I just checked On-demand Scanner, and got Memory - scan
failed,
and Boot Sector (C): - scan failed as well as
C:\WIN386.SWP.

Still o.k. ?

Yes for the VM file WIN386.SWP. I can't say the same for a Memory scan failure.

I'll uninstall-reinstall after I resolve my internet
connection problem.
DSL tech thot it could be virus related. When I reboot, I
can connect
to first URL only.

I tri\uly doubt removing and reinstalling will make a difference.

As to if you have a virus already...

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm
