Ethernet Trouble

Hello sorry for the previous repost, my finger slipped. I recently
obtained a computer with the following specs:

Asus TUSI-M All in One Motherboard
Built In Ethernet Connector/Adapter
Built In Sound
128MB Memory
20GB HD
Lite On CD Burner

I installed WinXP Professional with no troubles. I connected the
computer to my network, but the network connection icon in the tray
reported the network cable as unplugged even though the network was
working perfectly. I checked under the "Network Connections" and
verified that the LAN connection was enabled and working properly, I
replugged the cable no result. I rebooted the computer checked the BIOS
settings, everything was ok, so I concluded the LAN connector must
defective.

So, I installed a 3Com Ethernet PCI card, winXP dectected and installed
it perfectly. Connected the card to the network and configured it to
work with my network. This time everything appeared to work perfectly
until I tried to access the Internet not one page would load, every
page would go to the default microsoft "not found" page. The network
was working perfectly, the configuration was ok, and winXP reported the
card as working perfectly. I checked the "network connections" page,
everything was Ok, the only anomaly I noticed that the "Packets"
heading, under the "activity" box in the "local area connection status"
dialog has no received packets at all, only sent packets.

I installed another 3Com Ethernet card same results.

Any ideas??

Hi John!

Are you sure that you have a fully functional network cable?

I'm using the same network cable on another computer, that is how I
sent all the previous messages.

Does the speed/duplex settings look ok? Simply having them set to auto
can cause some trouble. Also, have you checked that bus mastering etc.
are properly set up in the bios?

How are you connecting the "non-working" system to the network? If you are
using DHCP, then all the network access info (DNS servers, gateway, IP
address) would be assigned by this service. If not, then you must enter
each correctly in the TCP.IP settings (and Advanced settings.)

I do not use DHCP, rather I use a static IP address model. So I simply
configure the "non working" system with the correct static IP, gateway,
and DNS.

Thanks for all the help, I wll try them later today.
