My lap top has ethernet and wireless internet connections through a router
and cable modem. Should I leave both connections enabled? If so, which
connection is the computer using? thanks

If you open "Network Connections" & Click on Advanced, Advanced
Settings (TAB) in the Connections: Box you'll see the Hierarchy of the
LAC's and which one has priority. You can toggle the sequencing using
the arrow keys to the right of the details box.

Kevin:

I setup two hardware profiles, one for WiFi and one for Ethernet.
Each profile has the unused interface disabled.

To know which interface is in use from w/i the GUI, enable the "Show icon in
notification area when connected" setting in each interface's properties.

Is the laptop connected to an ethernet (CAT5) cable? If not you're using
the wireless adaptor.

It shouldn't matter if both are enabled, the system will use the active one.
