ethernet controller missing

My girlfriend's computer picked up a virus and crashed. They wiped the HD
and reinstalled all the system software. I had to go in and reinstall some
of the drivers that I was able to find on disk (i.e. display drivers) but I
cannot seem to find the ethernet controller anywhere. Can anybody offer me
some assistance? Is there a place to download the controller online?

Also, the processor doesn't seem to be working as fast, but system
properties correctly lists its speed. Is this problem possibly related to
the ethernet controller issue?

Is it a PCI Ethernet controller card? If so, look at it to find the
manufacturer and model number, then go to the manufacturer's web site
and download the driver.

Did the computer come with a driver installation disk? Dell computers
generally do. If so, load the driver from the disk.

Is the Ethernet controller built into the motherboard? If so, what
make and model of computer and motherboard do you have?
