Have been unable to find the answer to this.
Recently, when I receive a notice on my PC I a new Windows Update is
available, I find myself in an endless loop.
Get to the update page. Select Continue.
"Files required for Microsoft Update are no longer registered."
I select the option to "Register or reinstall files . . ."
I get a progress bar that runs to 100% but am immediately returned to
"Files required for Microsoft Update are no longer registered."
Hope do I break this loop?

I understand you're probably frustrated at this point, but your query is
really best suited for the experts in the WU newsgroup:
microsoft.public.windowsupdate .

If anyone will have some insight into this, it will be there.

Thanks for the reply. I'll do that.
