Windows Update software dl not working

Hi there, I've been having this problem on my laptop for a long time.
I have already installed SP2, but for a few months, I get this message when
trying to use windows update:

"
Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed
on your computer. To continue:

( ) Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
-or-
( )Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem
"

it then shows I've downloaded the files, 100%
it then shows I've registered, 100%

Then i brings the first page back, to press "Update"

Then the problem, I get the SAME message again!!!

Please help!!
