ESS Superlink-M Data Fax Voice Modem

I have an HP Pavillion 1175 notebook with Windows XP. I use Verizon DSL.
When I try to send a fax my fax console can't connect with the modem. Also
once in a while I try to dial up the internet via Juno. I get an error
message that Juno can't communicate with the modem. I've gone though all the
suggested diagnostics and they come out ok. The modem is enabled. Location:
PCI Slot 4 (PCI bus 0, device 9, function 0). Port Com 3. Driver: 5.43.70.1
In device mgr the modem isn't listed in Ports (Com & LPT). Any suggestions?
Thanks

Does Device Manager show a "Modems" entry and is the modem listed under this
heading?

Yes, I have right clicked it, then clicked on properties and gone through the
whole trouble shooting process with no success. Thanks.
