Scott Snyder

I am an newbe network admin and 2 of my users have been
getting errors and having to reboot. I have no idea what
is causing them but some of the errors are as follows.

Automation error
A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

Insufficient system resources exist to complete the
requested service.

The RPC server is unavailable

And the log looks as follows

We have a NT server and both of these are 2000 machines.
None of the other machines on our network are experancing
these problems.

Is Norton Anti-virus on the machines? Uninstall it, then reinstall it,
update it, scan the machine for viruses.

Tried that on one of them but still no luck. Norton 2002
is on all of our machines except the server (2001). Any
other suggestions? Also, at times picture files won't load
over the network or internet. Even small icon jpgs

Don't know. If this is XP,..use System Restore to roll it back to before the
problem started.

As Phillip had mentioned it does appear to be something corrupt in the Norton AV installation. I would try to manually uninstall Norton AV ( they have instuctions for this on their website ). This involves editing the registry ( always a risk, especially for newbies ) so I would definately back-up the registry as well as back-up the entire machine before trying this. After uninstalling it try doing an online virus scan from Symantec or another reputable site. Clean off any spyware with Ad Aware and/or SpyBot. Then reinstall NAV. Not sure if this will fix it, but it would be my next step ...

Still no luck I got 3 doing it now all recently installed
2000 machines. I am beginning to think I got a bad copy of
2000. I'm going to format 1 of them and try my personal
copy of 2000 see if that helps. FYI, all are P4s and while
2 are identical 1 has a completly different setup so I
don't see it being hardware related. Been banging my head
against the wall for a week now.
