Errors in the Event Viewer.

J

I have been getting the below two errors showing up in my event
viewer. They don't seem to causing any problems. I have Googled them
but have not found any explanation of how to fix them (that I
understand anyway). The MFC80U.DLL file IS in the WinSxS36 folder, but
I can't find VC80.MFCLOC anywhere on my machine. The first error shows
up twice and the last one shows up four times when they occur, but I
haven't been able to determine any pattern for when that is. The last
error sows up with a Event ID of 59 also.

Question is, what should I do about them if anything?

I'm afraid my memory here is pretty sketchy, but I seem to recall suffering
the same problem when I was running an older version of Logitech SetPoint
(horrible, horrible software).

If you're running SetPoint, update it. If you're not, I remember stumbling
across other posts reporting the same problem and it related to a Visual C++
Redistribution package. Check out the MS download pages for a Visual C++
Redistributable pack.

As far as I can tell, none of the below apply to the problems I
described. I don't believe I am running any of mentioned programs.
Thanks for the reply.

I'm not running SetPoint. The "For more information etc." link I get
when double clicking the error message does talk about the C++
Redistributable pack, but I have no idea what it does nor what I am
supposed to with it if I get it. Can you enlighten me any about it?
Thanks for the response.

Apparently you have some application that needs and installed C++ but didn't
do it correctly.

This event occurs in conjunction with EventID 32 from source SideBySide and
it is caused by an application that was not packaged with all of the
necessary runtime files. In my case this was caused by the Logitech SetPoint
software and was solved by getting the appropriate C++ 2005 Redistributable
Package.

I have no idea what that application might be other than Logitech SetPoint
software mentioned above. I am sure that there are plenty of others.

ideas?

Do you have 3 CD drives? I have 2 and they are numbered 0 & 1.

When you shutdown or restart, is there a disk in CdRom2? The drawer open?

Something is trying to access CdRom2 when you shutdown or restart. What?

When I burn a CD with Nero, if I try to access the CD to see if it plays OK
before Nero lets go of it, I will get a message something similar to the
device is not ready. It's not ready because Nero still has a hold of
whatever handles. I guess what I am trying to say is that more than one
application can be trying to access the drive.

<quote>
Event ID 15 indicates that the device is not ready. This can be the result
of SCSI host adapter configuration issues or other problems. Check with the
manufacturer for updated firmware, drivers, or known issues. This could also
indicate a malfunctioning device. This error occurs at the device level; the
cluster software is not likely to be involved. Event ID 15 may also be
accompanied by these error messages from the Cluster service:1038, 1036,
1069

But the situation is the same, troubles with the drive or cabling. In
particular for CD units, there is possible to be only a defective/dirty CD
or dusty lens. Cleaning will help.

I have two DVD drives; one's read only, the other is read/write. I do
however, occasionally use a virtual drive. There are still 3 virtual
DVD drives showing up in my file manager even though there is nothing
mounted on them. Could this be the problem? If so, how do I get rid
of these drives? I can't see how it could be as these drives are
always there, but I only occasionally get the above error.

No and no. I NEVER leave a disk in either drawer.

File Manager? Do you mean Windows Explorer or are you using some 3rd party
File Manager?

Use the Device Manager to remove the virtual devices. If the devices do not
appear in the Device Manager, click Show hidden devices on the View menu in
Device Manager. If that does not display them, see below.

Device Manager Does Not Display Devices That Are Not Connected to the
Windows XP-Based Computer
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539

SYMPTOMS
Device Manager displays only non-Plug and Play devices, drivers, and
printers when you click Show hidden devices on the View menu. Devices that
you install that are not connected to the computer (such as a Universal
Serial Bus [USB] device or "ghosted" devices) are not displayed in Device
Manager, even when you click Show hidden devices.

WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior and display devices when you click Show hidden
devices:

1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click
Command Prompt.
2. At a command prompt, type the following command , and then press ENTER:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

3. Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

start devmgmt.msc

4. Troubleshoot the devices and drivers in Device Manager.

NOTE: Click Show hidden devices on the View menu in Device Manager
before you can see devices that are not connected to the computer.
5. When you finish troubleshooting, close Device Manager.
6. Type exit at the command prompt.

Thanks for that link. One other application afflicted by this problem
is MOZART 9, a music notation program, written -I believe- using VC++

The direct link for the file (2,686,232 bytes) is:
