Errors in Network Places

George

Am using a WinXP-pro PC. Would like to know how to clean up old stuff in
Network Places...

When I right-click My Computer > Explore > [+] Network Places... there are
the usual links to other PCs (like "c:\documents on Joe's PC") but also a
number of things that look like a website was visited and got lodged in as a
network place/link...

examples...
-downloads on www.techzzzz.com
-imaging on www.secretary.state.....
-reachout on www.jonesfinancial....
-aircraftpages on www.onmijet....

Some of these look like places where I clicked and reviewed a pdf file. In
any event, they are junk and can cause problems... When I right clicked on
some (to try to "delete")...the PC froze up.

How can I get rid of these old/inactive/useless links and cleanup My Network
Places?

Thanks,
George

George,

Instead of right clicking on them just select them and press the delete key
or drag/drop them onto the Recycle Bin. Or if you are comfortable working
in a command window you can navigate to %userprofile%\nethood and delete
these network shortcuts from there.

I also tried to delete many of such entries, but the Explorer was freezing
and I had to restart the Explorer. Is there any reason for this, what should
I change?

Heinz,

When you select a network place and right click it Explorer tries to go out
and find this network resource. That is what is causing Explorer to hang.
Do you have Novell Netware installed? Instead of right clicking the network
place, select it with a left click, and then drag/drop it to the Recycle
Bin. That should allow you to delete it without hanging explorer.
