has anyone any idea how to get rid of a message in a blue
box saying attention out of range h93.5khz-v84.9hz that
matreialised after my son tried to change the screen saver

He probably changed your monitor refresh rate. Go into Safe Mode and
then to the Display applet in Control Panel and set it back to
"optimal" or "default". Be sure the screen resolution is also set to
something your monitor can handle.

You are getting that message because your video card is sending a higher
frequency than the monitor can handle. Right click on desktop and choose
properties. Click on settings and then click on advanced. In advanced click
on monitor and set the refresh one setting lower than it is currently.

Press F8 to start in safe mode and adjust your display settings, they are
too high for your monitor to handle,
