Does it just shut off, or does it restart? If it just shuts off, is it
hard to restart?
If it restarts, it's most likely that something is crashing and WIndows is
helpfully giving up and restarting. To turn this behaviour off so that you
might be able to get some clues as to what's going wrong, right-click on My
Computer, choose Properties, then Advanced, under Startup And Recovery
choose Settings, and then de-select Automaticall Restart under "system
failure". Choose OK back to the desktop, and now, if it's actually a crash,
you'll at least get some sort of error message, possibly a blue screen.
The error number and the file name that follow it are the most important
things.
If it just shuts off, powers down, with no notice, and does not attempt to
restart, restoring will probably have no effect. The problem in that case
is likely hardware failure, possibly due to overheating. This is more
likely if it is also difficult to get it to restart.
Unfortunately, it's hard to tell exactly what hardware is failing - it can
be the power supply, RAM, the CPU, or many components on the motherboard.
And this will mean that you'll be spending money.
