error with sp2

hi...
i install windows xp pro with SP2 3 days ago
when i connect to internet and when network notifation
appear in taskbar,,
for about 1 minute my taskbar locked and i can`t run any
program such as IE,,or anything,,but programs that
running before connect to internet can run & swith with
ALT+TAB..but in my friend pc this problem not being..
he don`t have any problem,,,
our pc detail in similar such cpu,,graphic card,,mainboard
but our modems is different,,mine is lucent modem,,& his
modem is rockwell,,

Did the problem go away on its own or did it persist?
