Error when trying to add another domain controller to domain

I restored a domain controller from production to our lab to test the upgrade
to windows 2003. After a lot of cleaning up I finally have a functioning W2K
domain controller in my lab.

However, when trying to add a second w2k dc to my lab, I keep receiving an
error stating that I dont have the perms to modify the machine account
MACHINENAME$. I looked at q article 203177 from msoft and that didnt seem to
help. I run dcdiag and all tests come back okay. Does anyone have any
thoughts?

Did you do a metadata cleanup on all of the other domain controller objects
from the production domain that no longer exist in the lab? That's likely
the source of your problem.
