Dead Domain Controller

I have a test domain with two domain controllers. One of the DC's (luckily
not the one w operations masters on it) just died. I can't find in Technet
the best way to get it out of active directory cleanly. What is the best way
to remove it as it is never coming back? Do I just delet the domain
controller in ADUC?

Once you've deleted it in ADUC you also need to get rid of some more details
that aren't editable from the more normal admin tools.

This article title on TechNet talks about doing this if the active directory
removal process fails for whatever reason, but it's the same steps you need
if the hardware died:

Do NOT delete it in ADUC or anywhere else before you do the Metadata
Cleanup.

Google:

[ NTDSUtil "metadata cleanup" ]

Thanks. That is what I did yesterday afternoon. The KB article also talks
about deleting it out of DNS. I did everything the article did and it
disappeared from ADCU so I never got the chance to delete it. I'll find out
today what works when I put in the new drives and rebuild the DC from scratch.

Deleting out of DNS is fine and a good idea.
