How to build an AD DC in a lab

I need to build a functional W2K AD DC in our lab for testing. I want to
have the lab server as a clone / copy of an existing DC in our production
environment.

What is the proceedure to do this? I have tried the following with no luck;

Build new W2K server in lab, same name, same hardware.

Used NTBackup to restore a C: drive and SystemState backup taken from our
production server. Select to overwrite all files.

When I reboot, all sorts of problems from not a domain member, snapins
failing etc.

Can someone please tell me what is the correct way to do this?

Thanks

Brian Desmond has a procedure for doing this on his blog at http://briandesmond.com/blog/archive/2003/11/25/251.aspx. I am assuming these two identical forests will be kept isolated, right
