Hi all, I am using Excel 97, on Windows XP HomeEd SP2 for a few months now.
The other day, when I went to Tools/Options whilst I was in a document, it
came up with an error box, saying send report to Microsoft etc...and then
closing app, I am quite dumfounded, i have uninstalled etc. Other office
apps run perfect, as has excel until recently. Many thanks for your help

after my name, (John A K 9D123C54 ..etc) I think this is whats blowing it.
How can I change it it wont let me...go through reg ?.. Many thanks again...

Hi John,

If you're comfortable using RegEdit to modify Excel's registry entries
directly, the easiest thing to do would be to close Excel and navigate to
the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Excel\Microsoft Excel

Find the value named DefaultPath on the right side, double-click it and
enter some really short valid path like C:\. The problem should then be
gone.
