Error when importing Excel file

Joe M.

I am getting an error when trying to import an Excel file into Access 2000.
I have successfully imported other Excel files with more columns and rows.
After going completely through the wizzard after pressing the finish button
the error appears simply saying an error occured when importing the file with
no other details. I have examined the file closely but unable to determine
the cause. Can someone tell me what things to look for in the file which may
be causing the error?

Thanks!
Joe M.

The error is often a problem with the column names, like duplicate column
names, names starting with a space, or bad names. The import spreadsheet
wizard doesn't tell you anything when it fails. The import text wizard does.

Convert the xls file to a csv or txt file and import that. When it fails
check the import errors table for the rows that failed and the reasons.

1. Export the Excel file as text (tab delimited)

2. Import the text file into Access setting all columns to text.

3. Do what you need to do in Access.
