Error Searching from the Address Bar

Guest

Hi folks, I have recently cleaned a malware off my system called
"BookedSpace" that prevent searches from the Internet Explorer address bar
from working. And now, even after removing the malware, I still can't do an
address bar search, for eg. if I type "find microsoft" I get an Invalid
Syntax Error page and the address bar shows this:
http:///? find microsoft

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, "Qmann." Internet Explorer is quite legitimate about its error
message. You should have entered "Search Microsoft," not "Find Microsoft."
IE recognizes "Search" as its AutoSearch command.

Hope that little bit of info helps.

Brandon,

In IE press F1,Alt-S and enter: find AND "Address bar"
Select the first topic. (Alt-T,Enter.)

I still see: "Type go, find, or ?" as it has been since the
AutoSearch feature first came out. (No search command.)

Qmann's symptom suggests that AutoSearch is disabled or broken.
There is a link on that Help page which details how to re-enable it
which should allow find to initiate searches from the Address bar
providing the search mechanism is not broken.

If it is broken I would suggest using the Search bar's Customize...
option to get into the AutoSearch settings dialog (Ctrl-e,Alt-z,Alt-A)
as that is more reliable than the radio button selector in the Advanced
options tab.

If it is really badly broken a registry repair may be needed.
OP has not disclosed the OS involved but the standard IE Repair
(ref KB194177) is often sufficient.

Hope that little bit of info helps.

Ditto. ;)
