Error reading drive--Delayed Write

I was in Windows Explorer; I clicked on Drive E: a Sata drive I had.
And I got "Delayed Write error--all data was lost"
Then the drive seemed to turn on and off every 9 seconds.
I had to shut down and unplug it.
What is this error?
Is the drive dead now?

Yes I have a raid card for the sata drives.
Thx...I will try this solution.

My registry only has one entry called IOcachecontrol. There is no 3ware. But
I do have SP2

Thanx...I haven't gone into the bios yet.....but I found that write caching
was only enabled on the one drive that errored.
