Hi

I own a Dell dimension 8200 running XP pro, 256MB RAM.
I have been getting more and more error messages and screen freezes.
When I restart the PC, the icons take a lot longer to appear on the
desktop as before, today the hourglass icon would stay on next to my
mouse arrow.Programs, windows are slower to open.
I run adaware, spybot quite often and have Norton anti-virus which I
update when it tells me to.
My problems seem to happened most of the time when I am online and
using windows explorer at the same time.
Here are some of the error messages I managed to write down:

Error message #1:

SYSFADER: EXPLORER.EXE APPLICATION ERROR
The instruction at "0x77f57e4f" referenced memory at "0x00000067". The
memory could not be written.

Error message #2(I didn't get all of this one):

Exception eaccess violation in module ntdll.dll at "00007e4f"

Error message #3:

The instruction at "0x77f58024" referenced memory at "0x00000067". The
memory could not be written.

Error message #4:

ADMILLISERV.EXE APPLICATION ERROR
Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).

Error message #5:

Finnaly today I got an error message telling me my system resources
were low.

When these error messages appear, sometimes they disappear after 2
clicks, sometimes it takes 15 clicks to get rid of them, also the
taskbar (The one on the bottom) disappears and reappears, the desktop
icons disapear and reappear. I usually restart at this point.

I tried to give you the most info I could, I hope someone can save me
the headache of a system restore but I am really sick of it.
Thanks a lot

Even though you run the soyware programs, it still sounds like it is spyware.
What version of ad-aware are you running? Have you tried upgrading to the
latest version of ad-aware?

Also, check to see if you have New.net in your installed programs list? if
so, remove it?

Do you have XP service pack 2?

What version of Norton?

Hi Ivan
Even though you run the soyware programs, it still sounds like it is spyware.
What version of ad-aware are you running? Have you tried upgrading to the
latest version of ad-aware?

I am running ad-aware 6.0 and just updated it, ran it again and
restarted the PC.Still slow.
Updated spybot just now, ran it again, found 4 more items which I
deleted, restarted PC, ran ad-aware and spybot again, nothing found.
Still slow to open programs and load desktop icons.
Also, check to see if you have New.net in your installed programs
list?

This program isn't there.

Do you have XP service pack 2?

Don't laugh but I am not sure. I have some service pack 2 updates
located in my installed programs in control panel. How do you make sure
you have SP2?

What version of Norton?
Norton 8.07.17C

Thanks a lot for helping me Ivan

Hi

I have windows XP pro version 5.1, thanks WTC REMOVE for the tip.
I just defragged it, took a while, my last defrag was in September. The
PC is definitely faster, especially reboot and icons appearing on the
desktop but double-clicking programs and them opening is still way too
slow.
I just checked my windows update icon and it tells me I need to d/l
SP2, that wasn't appearing before.
My problem I have a dial up and it's a 75MB d/l. Shall i go ahead and
download a little at a time until all done? Does windows update
memorize what has been downloaded and restart from there the next time
I log on the internet?
My HD capacity is 37.2 GB, 26.2GB is free and 11.0GB is used up.
Thanks for your kind help
