error / missing files?

Hi,
Before I explain my problem I supose i'll say i'm using
Windows ME which is up to date.

As for my problem.. it's about two error messages I
recieve after atempting to open Internet Explorer. Upon
double clicking, it displays one of two error
messages, "Explorer has caused an error in <unkown>"
or "Explorer has caused an error in URLMON.DLL". I found
this error first began to occur after I found a few
spyware/adware files on my system, one of which altered
windows media player so when atempting to open it would 1.
fail to open, and 2. begin to run two new processes in the
background. I fixed this problem by simply reinstalling
WMP9. After that I ended up scanning my system with ad-
aware and trend micro's pc-cillin. Both of which found
entries/files which were identified as spyware/adware.
However for the past three days now IE has been giving me
that error I have described. I have attempted to uninstall
IE6 SP1 to go back to my previous version of IE, but that
has failed. I then attempted to reinstall IE6 SP1, during
the setup process it returned an error saying that some
files were not found and that I should reboot then resume
setup and then it should download the needed files. Well
after clikcing on OK the computer reboots, when entering
bakc into windows the setup comes up again and asks to
resume the setup, I do so. It gets back to the same setup
process where it attempts ot install the files, and again
this error pops up saying it cannot find the files needed
even though it specified that it would dl them. I have
searched through the IE FAQ and other help sources, after
which I believe I may be missing several files which IE
requires to run/install properly. However I myself did not
delete these files, nor did any of the ad-aware and anti-
virus scans delete anything relating to IE as far as I am
aware of. So i'm wondering how should I go about repairing
IE or replacing these missing files, or if it is some
other problem i'm having that i'm not aware of. Sorry for
this lengthy post, but I believe I gave more then enough
information. Thanks for anay help.

Note: I am able to post this and view websites through a
seperate browser that I have installed.

Hi Bryan :)

Try Step 1, and if that does not work, then go to Step 2.

Step1.

URLMON.DLL
"Invalid Page Fault in Module Urlmon.dll" Error Message When Starting
Internet Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=254490

Step 2.

It is likely you have parasites, spyware, adware, malware, or hijackware on
your system causing the problem, which your antivirus will not detect, as it
does not have the same definitions. Download and install, then you *MUST*
update the programs prior to running to be sure they have the latest
definitions, then run the programs below. They are free and very effective.
Be sure to run both SpyBot and Adaware, as what one does not detect the
other may. It is important that you follow all directions carefully:

You can go to the links below to check your system for parasites
http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/parasite.htm

IMPORTANT:
Before trying to remove spyware, download a copy of LSPFIX from
the URL below - some malware may kill your internet connection when it is
removed, this program will enable you to regain your connection.
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

It is important that you run the programs in the order that they are listed
here. The first three programs will clear your machine of all other items so
that you can have a clear HiJackThis Log for the experts to read and analyze
for you.

(NOTE: If you can not download these programs from the Internet, if your PC
has CD read capabilities, go to another computer with CD-ROM burning
capabilities. Create a folder on the hard drive of the other computer called
HOLD, download the programs to that folder, then burn that folder to a CD.
Copy the HOLD folder to your HD and then install the programs from there
and run them. After you have IE access again, update all programs where
possible to get the latest definitions and run them again to be sure there
are no lingering items on the system.
