error messages

Can anyone help me find out why my computer gives me an error message that reads windows has encountered a problem everytime i open my computer or control panel or internet explorer. With internet explorer it just closes the window but with my computer and control panel it'll try and restart something then i get a second error message that tells me that NSTASK32.exe could not be found and to make sure it's typed in correctly my computer is dying help me i'm a college student and i owuld hate to tell my profesor that a worm ate my homeowrk or something like that....help me out guys...i odn't wanna have to reformat i don't have another windows xp cd so i'll hvae to buy it for 199 or if i can get the school to get it for me i'll have to wait 2 weeks....

You have an AV app with current deffinitions?
